Every January, we like to look back on the year and share insights with our team. This year we’d like to share with you, too.
Here are the 4 biggest mistakes people tend to make when filling out claims for their business.
- The hands down biggest insurance mistake we see with commercial businesses is not having insurance at all. If you are a landscaper or a snowplow contractor, a tow truck operator, rink owner or your company delivers heating fuel, you need insurance. If you don’t have insurance or if you don’t have the right policy, at the right level, your business is at risk.
- The second biggest mistake we see is people filing claims inaccurately. Make sure you have all the information you need and share it with your insurance person or carrier within the requested timeframe. For accidents, claims need to be completed within 24 hours and reported to your insurance agent or insurance carrier directly. Having all of the information ready at the time you make the call will make your life easier and the claims process smoother.
- Not filing a claim is the third biggest mistake we see. Not every incident turns out to be a claim, but you have insurance for a reason. If one of your employees slips and falls or if one of your company cars or trucks is involved in a fender bender, you need to give your insurance agent or your carrier a call. We’re here to help.
- Filing a claim when it isn’t necessary is something we see all the time. Some claims are just not worth getting your insurance broker or carrier involved. A small paint scratch. A run-over garbage can. These are better handled as out-of-pocket expenses.
